Shockwave therapy
There can be times where physiotherapy treatment isn’t enough to help you recover from certain conditions. Shockwave therapy or Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is a highly effective and non surgical treatment for chronic soft tissue injuries. It is successful where traditional physiotherapy treatments have failed to help or if your condition has become chronic.
Shockwave therapy can treat conditions such as:
- plantar fascitiis
- Achilles tendonitis
- knee and hip pain
- tennis elbow
- golfers elbow
What is shockwave therapy?
It is non-evasive treatment and works by directing high energy impulses or waves of energy into the damaged tissue using a hand held device. During treatment, blood flow significantly increases to your affected tissue and helps to break down any scar tissue.
Because of this breakdown of scar tissue, shockwave therapy makes such a good treatment for stubborn conditions. A build up of scar tissue can prevent normal function and movement to the damaged area and can weaken the undamaged tissue surrounding it, which can cause you more damage and pain. Therefore, by increasing your blood flow and circulation to the affected tissue and breaking down scar tissue, this effective treatment helps to promote healing, regeneration and decrease local pain.
